About Gwen A.P.
Gwen Anne Parysek (Gwen A.P.) was born in Syracuse, NY on August 12, 1985. She has also lived in Rochester, NY, Pittsburgh, PA and now lives just south of Milwaukee, WI. Throughout Gwen’s life, art and music has been her inspiration, and at times her salvation.
During a tumultuous adolescence, Gwen relied on her art. It was a source of beauty and peace she could always count on, and one of the few things she could truly call her own.
It was during her time in college though, at SUNY Oswego, where Gwen truly began to develop her voice through art. During this time, Gwen discovered a deep passion for live music after her first time seeing The Disco Biscuits. Since then Gwen has painted on stage with them on several occasions, having their incredible music directly influence her art in a profound and significant way. She also discovered a love for the written word, through the professionally weird yet acute mind of Hunter S. Thompson, who continues to be an inspiration for Gwen, as he always seemed to embody and create a beautiful sort of audacity. The man who wrote:
“We shall let the reader answer this question for himself: who is the happier man, he who has braved the storm of life and lived or he who has stayed securely on shore and merely existed?” – HST
It was around this time when Gwen realized that life could truly be lived. Not within the confines others may want you to believe you should, but it can be lived extraordinarily, and without regard for what the average man might consider normal. In Hunter’s words,
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!” – HST
Gwen met her husband Rick in 2006, and since graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Education, the two now live outside of Milwaukee with their daughter Lilly, and son Beau. After pursuing a teaching career for a short time, Gwen soon realized that her love of teaching was simply no match for her true passion in life – art.
After having painted more seriously in her spare time for several years and accruing the first pieces of her portfolio, Gwen began her full-time pursuit as a professional artist in 2011, with Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival marking the jump-off point of her young career. Since then, Gwen has continued to surround her art with music, painting live on stage, at art festivals, in her studio, and often creating custom artwork for her customers across the country. She has also done album artwork for bands including the Disco Biscuits, Conspirator, and Roots Collder. She regularly appears at various music and art festivals; establishing herself as one of the premier live painters today.
Since her first live painting experience in 2011, Gwen A.P. has been fortunate enough to share the stage with bands like The Disco Biscuits, The Manhattan Project, Brothers Past, Conspirator and Dirty Paris to name a few.
Recently Gwen had the distinct privalege of sharing the stage with The Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra. She collaborated with conductor Wayne Wildman, and together they created a performance that dazzled the ears and the eyes. The MSO’s rendition of Moussorsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition was incredible musical journey where Gwen painted an image of two elephants. The painting was then named Upendo (Swahili for love) by an audience member.
Since working with the symphony, Gwen has switched gears and ventured into new territory, the film industry. After reading the script for Nathan Catucci’s new film, Impossible Monsters, Gwen agreed to do the art production for the film. The film is a psychological thriller about an inspiring artist.
